FRIDAY'S HUM ( 10-27-06 )
MALEK'S BAY
He's not a kook. He's no dummy. And he smells good.
Progressive candidate for Lt. Governor Dr.Marvin Malek's credible performance during last evening's VPR statewide debate in Colchester must have incumbent Brian Dubie licking his lips. Granted, Malek is no Pollina, but the smarter he sounds, and the more rational he behaves, the more he will tend to draw votes away from Dem challenger Matt Dunne, who already trails by 10 to 15 points. In the next debate, during the candidate question period, Dubie should ask Malek questions and just let him go, trusting that Malek will answer coherently and passionately, thereby ensuring more votes for himself, indirectly.
Desperately seeking office, Matt Dunne is still hanging on to the lame work ethic thing. Anybody who has driven through Montpelier in July knows that zero work is being done in an 'office'; one would look damn silly, or damn suspicious, propped up in a nearly empty statehouse, pretending, like a Fletcher Allen middle manager, to look busy.
We told you, kid. Stick with the service politics. It's a good idea.
By the way, Dr. Malek has said he will continue to practice medicine if elected.
FIVE CORNERS UPDATE - Essential collection
Couldn't wait at the Essex Junction Five Corners Light yesterday. I was too busy. So I strapped on a set of rescue lights to the top of car and sailed through unimpeded. It was great!

Malek is NOT just another wacko P. He's an outraged intelligent citizen who is willing to sacrifice in order to initiate change.
Go Malek!
Malek isn't a pyscho. In fact, there are times he actually makes some sense. But not very often.
Dunne, on the other hand,is desperate, like you guys said. One gets the feeling when listening to him that he just wants to be an asshole/ He must be really frustrated.
Dubie's got this one tied up.
Once there was a doctor who became governor. Maybe another doctor will be lieutenant governor.
republi-chicken has a lot of passion, but not much upstairs.
"Maybe another doctor will be lieutenant governor."
Hah! malek has about as much chance of winning as auditor hopeful Martha Abbott. Dream on.
The progressives are a dying breed, thank God!
If Douglas wins and Dunne wins, we are going to have alot more state political gridlock than we have now. It's best to vote Dubie at this point.
I fail to see how voting for Dunne would cause gridlock. Gridlock is generally caused by control of the executive and legislative branches of the government being in the hand of different parties. That is the case now, with Republican governor Jim Douglas facing off with an Assembly and Senate controlled by the Democrats. While the Lieutenant Governor can make noise, getting to cast the deciding vote in the Senate chamber in the rare instance of a tie vote would hardly be the cause of gridlock.
Assuming Douglas wins and the Democrats retain control of the legislature, we'll probably see plenty of failed efforts and inertia these next two years. Rather not unlike the last two. While I won't think that's a good thing in the case of our state, I must confess that gridlock would have been quite welcome in D.C. these past few years.
Does republi-chick have a life, a job, a brain?
Just wondering?
Progs a dying breed? I wonder what you will be saying on Nov 8th when they have increased the number of seats they hold from 6 to probably 8 maybe 9? Luck? I'm stupid and wrong? I'd go with the latter if I were you and re-evaluate your knowledge of politics in this state because it is clearly low.
