RADIO GIANT HANDS OUT XMAS GIFTS -- IN THE FORM OF SEVERANCE CHECKS!
STAR 92.9, CHAMP AND KISS EMPLOYEES VAPORIZED!
No one can give you the scoop better than Kevin Carter, the scribe from Radio and Records whose daily Street Talk is a must-read for individuals in the radio biz. Here's his chatter from Wednesday, 12-6-06.
"Even the bucolic hamlet of Burlington, VT hasn't been spared a visit from the CC Restructuring Snowplow of Doom(TM). Jennifer Foxx, a.k.a. "J-Fo," MD/midday ratings queen on AC WEZF (Star 92.9), was invited to leave the premises after nearly 13 years with the company and seven years in the market. Also out: Mel Allen, midday talent on Classic Rock WCPV (Champ 101.3/102.1); and Jag, morning talent on CHR/Top 40 sister WVTK (92.1 Kiss FM). ..."
Foxx, whose 100,000 watt voice was heard far and wide from 10-3 on weekdays, can be reached at foxxthatrocks@yahoo.com

Despite the "restructuring" done by Clear Channel, commercial radio in general seems to be fending off the well financed advances of sat radio, meaning XM and Sirius.
Now experts are starting to wonder if satellite radio can make it.
Who knows?
Now, thanks to Clearchannel, Satelite radio has a MUCH better chance. The one thing commercial radio had over satelite, was the local spin. Now, with Clearchannel (nationwide) planning to have more and more shifts "tracked" or simply skim mx sans a personality, satelite may get an edge back. Of course, thank GOODNESS, Clearchannel does NOT own everything. Nice to know that 24 hours a day there is a live body cross town at Hall Communications. Thanks guys!
We have satellite radio at work in our office and a lot of people don't like it because there's not a break in the action, so to speak. Nobody giving us the weather or little splashes of local stuff. Most of the people in our office would rather have a local person on the air.
Too bad all these people are losing their jobs. Who going to do their work?
Our office votes to bring back the real people.
Forget about Clear Channel.
With all the ipods, mp3s and computer
streaming, are DJs a dying breed ?
Hope not.
