WEEKLY HUM (1-29-10) We follow the action - and the media!
GIANT SINKHOLE SWALLOWS VERMONT YANKEE
Yeah. You wish.
One day a pipe's leaking Tritium - the next day it's not. Trying to keep up with Vermont Yankee/Entergy/Enoxus/Enoughofus is like trying to keep up with Red Sox shortstops.
Anyway, here's the latest from the BFP, which probably has the best nuke coverage in this great state of ours.
Oh - isn't Tritium one of the ingredients in those Little Debbie Star Crunch snacks. Maybe not.
DRUNKEN BUS DRIVER WAS NOT TEXTING!
According to unreliable sources, the bus driver who took the MMU hockey team for a ride was definitely not texting. Drunk, yes. Texting, no.
In case you missed this recent story, here is WCAX with the scoop and also a picture of a Mount Mansfield bus.
Oh - did you see the beleagured superintendent Jim Massingham try to explain why dude was hired? Looked a little like embattled Tres Sec Tim Geithner.
REPUBLICANS, ER, HACKERS HIT WELCHWEB, 20 OTHERS; F WORD DROPPED
Computer hackers called the Red Eye Crew claimed responsibility for the electronic intrusion. We joked about Repubs, but the hackers actually slammed right AND left. To see an actual compromised site, visit the Raw Story.
WILLISTON SELECTBOARD, COPS, DUKE IT OUT
Cop writes guest column in Williston Observer, regarding selectboard's aversion to adding an officer. Actually, not adding an officer, but eliminating one vacant patrol position. Selectboard writes guest column, talking smack. Fun stuff. Here are some snappy quotes from latter's column:
"It is important to understand that the officers could have saved the position but chose not to."
"While it is clear the officers are unhappy with the board's decision, they use inaccurate numbers to support their position."
"Finally, Detective Lavoie lists things that will possibly be cut. This is not the prerogative of the police union but rather a management and/or policy decision."
Ouch. I'd hate to be a Williston selectboard member speeding through town with an officer around.
To read the guest column in full, go to one of our favorite weeklies, the Williston Observer.
WILL BRANDON GET A HANNAFORD'S OR NOT?
When asked about a supermarket entering the Brandon arena, a Burlington streetwalker remarked, "Where's Brandon?"
For the very best story on the big deal, here comes the Rutland Herald.
CALEDONIAN-RECORD BLASTS DEMOCRATIC IDLERS

Five Corners Update
We were stuck at the Essex Junction Five Corners light facing south. After napping for a while, we woke and noticed a beautiful thread of light coming from...heaven?
After rubbing our eyes, we realized the light stream was not from heaven - it was from Bolton Valley!
What a wonderful display. Here is a local ski area - trying like HELL to secure local biz, with great specials and community involvement - AND a great light show. More power to you, dogs.
We hope you shine on for many years to come.
